The Austin Somerset was introduced in 1953 and subsequently renumbered to 161 in 1954.
The early versions of these models were available in solid body colours including shades of blue and red with similar ridged hubs.
Later versions were painted two-tone.
Each version, the 40j or the 161 showed their model number on the baseplate.
Model #40e was issued between 1953-54 and Model #161 was issued between 1954-60.
